  • Where is the boat rental located?
The State of Ohio owns and operates the park and marina. Therefore we operate by booking online and will pick you up at a dock location that is best for you and your family. This will be confirmed prior to your arrival. For example, if you are staying at the park lodge or cabins we will bring the boat to you at the lodge docks. For someone driving in we will confirm either the lodge, marina, or we can do a water pickup at the beach.
  • Do I need a boating license?
No. However if you are born after Jan 1, 1982 the State of Ohio requires you to either have taken a boating safety course or take an abbreviated exam. For those individuals you will need to either: (A) Sign the designated section of the rental agreement stating that you have a boating certificate. (We do not request proof of the certificate however if you are checked by ODNR you should be prepared to submit evidence within 72 hrs). Or (B) Take the abbreviated 10-question multiple choice exam at check-in. Found here.
  • What if the weather is going to be bad?
We do not cancel for overcast or light scattered showers. However we do cancel for severe weather and thunderstorms. In those cases we will do our best to contact you ahead of time. We will issue a full refund if your booking has to be cancelled.
  • What do I do if a storm arrives and I'm already on the water?
We will make every effort to reschedule or cancel your booking if weather is not going to permit your boat rental. However there may be times that pop up storms are in the forecast and you find yourself on the lake for these durations. Here is some advice for those situations: If you are tubing in the main waters. STOP. get everyone in the boat immediately and take shelter under the bimini. Keep the engine running If visibility permits create a safe space. Move your vessel to a central area void of other boats or shoreline. Turn on the navigation lights and maintain adrift (in deep water). In this area it may be too deep to anchor. You will just want to use the engine to maintain your safe space but avoid drastic movement. If you are in the swim area or already anchored down of course you will simply keep position. If lightning is present there is no safe place on the water. Move all people to the center of shelter under the bimini. Do not touch any metal framing and do not be the tallest item on the lake. In the best case you will move the boat to a dock and exit the vessel for shelter; However it is not always possible. If visiblity is not present you should not move for the risk of hitting another vessel or person. In the heat of the summer it is not uncommon for pop up storms. It can be unnerving on the water but generally they will come and go. Stay calm. stay in communication with us. When the storm curtails many vessels tend to motion towards exiting the lake. This is a dangerous time to resume water sports activity. Allow some time and maintain exclusive distance before resuming activities.
  • Can I cancel my reservation?

It is typically better to book the time you need in advance as our staff is scheduling around the bookings. For this reason we cannot match package rates when requesting more time on-demand. When requesting more time you will receive a link for payment that will need to be settled prior to your departure. Thank you!
